  • Galactic Mage

This is a really interesting mixed genre book.  Half the story is a sci-fi space trek. The other half is the story of a wizard who wants to use magic to go to the moon.  The second half is def this books saving grace seeing as the plot and characters are mediocre at best and the romantic aspects that end up driving the main characters actions are horrendously handled. Def more of a concept book than a narrative book.  Price is at 4 bucks so not all that cheap.  Rating 6/10

  • The Seven Realms Novels

High fantasy with fairly solid characters and plot if a bit cliched.  A lot of fun stuff in these books, none of them really fall flat.  Fast pacing and engaging events make for a good series.  This one is another dual M/F protagonist story so appeal for both sides of the isle if you don’t like reading stories solely about icky girls or dumb boys.  On the fence about whether or not the romance is good enough to add to the story or just not bad enough to detract.  Pricing is fairly steep at 4 books priced from 8 to 12 bucks.  Rating 7/10

  • Legend

This is a dystopian near future teen novel.  Fairly deep and interesting, probably to about the same level as hunger games, then again I haven’t read Hunger Games so I wouldn’t be able to say.  Dual protagonists so if you like that then good for you.  Teeny-bob romance is def present but doesn’t consume the story.  Pricing is steep so it loses some goodwill for that.  Rating 6/10

  • Psion Beta/ Psion Gama

Sci Fi series of the near future type.  Military Academy of Super powered individuals, trains super special genius main character to win the war.  Things go downhill for the kid from there.  Not great but good none the less, I read both the books straight through in one day.  It is however very expensive.  Rating 6/10

  • Nobody Get’s the Girl

Very very very weird story.  Mixes plot twist mind-fuckery with the superhero genre for interesting results. Stays far away from cliche, or at least any cliches I know.  It isn’t exactly great but would be worth it if you have some time to kill.  More “though provoking” then entertaining, or at least trying to be.  Middling price. Rating 6/10

  • Anything Bubba the Monster Hunter related:

The love child of Harry Dresden and Larry the Cable guy.  For those of you who live under rocks that means snarky as hell amusing monster hunting shenanigans with a good deal of redneck flair. Funny as all hell short stories. Not as much bang for your buck but probably worth it. Rating 7/10

  • Wizard Rising/ Magic Awakening/ Hidden Fire:

Good farm boy to wizard high fantasy series. Interesting if not original Magic system. Dodges quite a few of the genre cliches while running headlong into others. First book is dirt cheap other two aren’t quite as cheap. More on the way, probably 5 or 6 books is my guess. Rating 8/10

  • Confessions of a D List Super Villain:

Another deconstruction of a superhero genre that doesn’t fall into the ever annoying, grimdark/ everybody is an asshole trope that often goes along with superhero deconstructions.  What happens when mind controlling bugs infest every living human on the planet?  The world is left in the hands of one semi-retired, D-list super-villain. It’s cheap. Rating 8/10

  • Other Peoples Hero’s:

FUCKING BRILLIANT super hero book. Love the shit out of this one.  Basic premise is that in a city full of superheroes a simple newspaper reporter finds out he has superpowers and goes out to fight crime.  Then the deconstruction begins… then the reconstruction happens. Doesn’t go grimdark like a lot of superhero deconstruction. It’s cheap. Rating 9/10

  • Failing Test:

Fun book that explores what would happen if you got superpowers one day. Interesting premise and very good execution.  The story goes to some places I found really interesting.  Doesn’t go to fairy tale or to the super grimdark/everybody is evil extremes. Cheap but not dirt cheap. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU READ THE SEQUEL. Rating 7/10
